Is 2014 New Game Pad JXD S7300C Really Ready?

Yes, we had contacted the news for JXD S7300C with the factory for many many times. Still no luck till now. Their sales men confirmed us that this game pad S7300C is still not available. Then why you still can see some listing on other sites? Strange?

JXD S7300C

Well, here is the basic specification for this device- We just cut the original sources from JXD:

It looks like JXD S7300 exactly! Yes, the manufacture just used the same mod but replace different chip on S7300C. The chip is: RockChip 3188, Quad Core, 1.6GHz (cortex A9 CPU, ARM mali400 mp4 GPU). Yes, from dual core to quad core. It is said that this chip allow new JXD S7300C run more fast. No more words powerful than the real testing. Once we get the sample, we will find ways to test it, which you may be interesting.

Then this device is really ready or not? Like the way JXD did many years ago, they had created a new page for this device. Check it here: But no more in their English page. At the same time, we can find its listing on their Tmall shop here: But you can find something wrong in this page- there in Tmall. They did use the keyword” JXD S7300C” in their title. Also they post the right specification for 7300C like the ones on their official site. But we just checked those reviews/ comments people who bought “this device”. These comments are dated back to 2013. And we got the common knowledge that JXD S7300C is the new product in 2014 then it is ridicule to find comments dated back to last year. One thing we can figure out is that the item that sold in JXD Tmall is not JXD S7300C but JXD S7300!

Some one may found 7300c game pad is listed on other on line shop- in English. You can search it on Google then you will find some. But they are not real. They are just selling JXD S7300 not JXD S7300C. Be careful when they buy from them. Double check and confirm with the sellers to make sure their listings are right. So far as we know JXD S7300C game tablet is still in factory not available.

Please tell us if we are wrong. Like many gamers, Willgoo prefer to believe 7300C game console is ready!

JXD S5800 Prototype Had Been In Hand Now!

What is your expectation on JXD S5800? Just a small version of JXD S7800B or another good choice for 5 inches Android gaming tablet? Well, no need to wait too much time as we had got the JXD S5800 prototype today. More details will be released in these coming days!

JXD S5800

My first impression on JXD S5800 gaming tablet is that it is another Much i5. Yes, S5800 is much like much i5 but with more buttons. Supporting phone function makes this gaming tablet more than a gaming console. I think this is JXD’s first step entering into Gaming phone tablet market with releasing this new device. No doubt that there will be more and more competition in this market in 2014. Whatever, JXD S5800 gets a lower price than Much i5. But the lower price does mean a worse quality.

So far as what we tested, this JXD S5800 console has a better compatibility on most emulator games- Big Android game, NDS, PSP, PS1, N64, MAME ect. The trigger buttons and joystick are good- much like what you did on JXD S7800B. But smaller size allow you to carry this device easier. We will release you the video on testing the games next week. Stay tuned!

The one that we got is the white. As white color is my favor, this white JXD S5800 fullfill my dream on owning a small size JXD S7800- so far JXD only produce the only one color for this 7 inches device- the black one. For JXD S5800, there will be both black and white colors available.

We got some interesting questions on Dingoonity after we post our pictures for this device. “How do you put this device while using it as a phone?” Well, the simple way is so simply. Just hold it besides your ear. But the joystick make suck into your ear. Funny? I don’t thing guys will make photos very often when they bring JXD S5800 in the metro- yes, you can if you want to make fun. As the leader gaming tablet, JXD make S5800 as a gaming handheld more than a phone. Are you agree?

JXDS7800B Launching from WILLGOO as an Interesting 2013 Christmas Gift Choice

As 2013 Christmas Day is coming near, people are busy on selecting gifts. JXD launched the first tablet sized portable game console- JXD S7800B at this moment. It should be a good choice for your gifts choice.

JXD S7800B

It all started with the JXD S7100 in 2011: the tablet that changed the way gamers see tablets… a Tablet for gamers. Of course it had not triggers included. Only with the L, R shoulder buttons. Coming to the end of 2012, JXD s7300 is released- a well made and reasonable priced game tablet. Different from JXD S7100, it is with should buttons. This design makes games control games more comfortably. The screen is capactive one and having a very good touching support for touching games. And the tendence spread fast: lot of companies from China and even from the US launched their own “game tablets”.

Once again, JXD shocked the game world and make a print in the game history launching the GAMEPAD 3 or JXD S7800. More than focus to be a “game tablet” the concept is closer to gamers in terms of it is a FULL CONSOLE, with tablet functions. It is a BIG SCREEN portable console rather than just a “game tablet” with a incredible battery life, power. The quality is much better than his formal version- JXD S7100 and JXD S7300. The biggest steps that this device brings to the world is its chip- RockChip 3188 Quad Core. That means the console can run more faster and support an excellent gaming experience. This is very important when gamers play big Android games such as Nova 3, Dead Trigger ect. Another selling poit is the analog joystick. This time both the left and right one are real! JXD makes keymapping suitable for people to set these two sticks. This is helpful when gamers play those games requiring more setting and control.

JXD S7800B gaming tablet

To make this device more excellent, JXD will consider to release the original source code for some gaming teams which are specialize in this area. Last year, they offered the code to Xsample Team for JXD S7300. This acting help gamers a lot when they want to cotomize this gaming tablets. Although JXD does not plubic news on sharing the code for JXD S7800B game tablet, many jobs should be done if they want to let more people know this cool gaming console.

Official distributor for JXD S7800B worldwide is Willgoo- a company with more than 3 years of experience in portable gaming. “We are not only selling these game console tablet but also offering our best service to support people to make good use of it”, Said Vincent, sales manager of Willgoo. Unlike other online shop selling tablets from China, Willgoo always keep upating the latest news on gaming tablet, gaming phone and other gaming devices. They ganar high reputation on caring what customs mainly concern.

“We will release more and more useful accessories for JXD S7800B in these coming days”, added by Vincent,”hopefully what Willgoo do will help more people know this great gaming tablet console”.

TheXSample – SXELROM JXD v1.0 for S7300B

Use of this article

The author (Deen0X) allows you to use this article, either by copying or link to anyone who wants it, with the only condition that remains the author and a link to the original source of this review, which is cited in the following section .

Source and update the information in this article

The original article (in Spanish) is in Deen0X’s Blog .

For updates on this article, I suggest visiting one of the links above.

I had the opportunity to participate as a member of TheXSample team, which has taken aim to continue with Skelton generated custom roms, but for JXDS7300B, and this article is the presentation of this paper that this time I come to make known to the community.

To summarize a bit, basically characterized by Skelroms roms be simple, without much customization to user level (no or spectacular effects, and special options or anything like that), but are based on the original roms that basically bloatware clean software (software typically Chinese filler or manufacturers often place), and that both are added to a series of specific tweaks to achieve gain, insofar as possible, but stability in the system, better CPU performance and better compatibility in the market google.

For with the same philosophy, the new Team wanted to continue generating its own version of the Skelrom, which by giving a nod to users, in clear reference to their origin have wanted to call S ELROM with an “X” (which is the same name of The Sample), and clearly favors the confusion (or similarity) with the original rom, so users feel the familiarity of this firmware , or at least know where it comes from.

(Initial Desktop rom)

To say that this rom development takes time, basically because most of its members are, or with very little time to devote to the project, or you are with other projects, but that everyone has to try to meet interested in collaboration, continue working on this project.

The release of the sources has been a major milestone to generate the synergy necessary for the project to take a more definite shape, and especially the incorporation of some members who have contributed in a fundamental way in the development, particularly in the kernel, along with other important pillars such as the driver of the controls and the new mapping tool, which already know [/url] at this height.

Well, that said, it is simply an introduction to this post, I present this new Custom Rom, in which I have been fortunate to participate, albeit rather indirect, in its development (basically as tester and suggesting some options )

For a complete list of features, read the file

(SXELROM beta, showing some of the new features)

Will list only the main features present to the generation of this article.

(Separate mount points for the internal memory and the microSD)

  • Based Skelrom v1.0 for JXDS7300B, and updates the stock firmwares 1.4 (sources, firmware not publicly released) and 1.5 of JXD, so it includes all the fixes applied Skelrom, and novelties latest official firmware.
  • Includes new boot image, boot animation and wallpaper
  • Code cleanup, based exclusively on official sources. It contains traces of software or components outside the console.
  • New system mount points. Now sdcard and external_sdcard are level (not mounted one inside the other) with the swap can be done more easily.
  • Improved console deep sleep. When the wifi is not active, the console consumes much less battery when idle.
  • Fixed problem in some games Graphic Apps generating glitches on screen (example: Guerrilla Bob)
  • Changes to optimize the system, cache, SQLite, etc..
  • Rom to 1.32GHz by default. This includes patches to change the CPU frequency.
  • Kernel built from the sources provided by Skelton and Tincore, with several features ( look at the section on Kernel )
  • Implementation of new governors for the console specific, taking into account the same hardware to generate these configurations and their corresponding optimizations. Of these governors highlights especially the so-called “ondemand” that manages to remove over 10,000 points in AnTuTu, with a 1.3GHz single console (without unnecessarily stressing the CPU to achieve this result)
  • The governor “ondemand” also allows, among other things, the execution more “cold” system, as it requires no unnecessary stress causing the CPU to run at top speed steadily.
  • FIX is rejoining the 50Hz screen, the same as it has been suggested to incorporate into your firmware JXD 1.5 ( See the note on the screen refresh )
  • Generating new driver controls, Tincore completely rewritten and improved features that include the console input lag (less response delay in controls).
  • Adding new mapping tool KeyMapper [/url] “, with specific options for this firmware ( look at KeyMapper Tincore section for more information )
  • Two versions to install this rom. A clean (keeping the essence of a Skelrom), and a “RE-Custom”, which is basically the same as the clean, to which have been added some emulators and programs that are already pre-configured. This rom is basically disñeada for novice users in the android world, and they need a little help in order to start using the console and its emulators. ( See paragraph RE-Custom )

About the new Kernel

The kernel of this rom is generated based on the sources released by JXD for this device, and corresponding with the official version 1.4 (which was released with minor changes as 1.5)

(New governors added)

Among the notable changes on sources, we can highlight the following:

  • Changes in CPU and voltage parameters, to slightly reduce the temperature and give more stability to the system.
  • New governor “hotplug” added to the list of available governors.
  • New governor smartass renamed to “ondemand” added to the list of available governors.
  • Governor “ondemand” HAL uses bootspulse JellyBean, so the console with your specific hardware adjusts best to the speed you need.
  • Support CIFS / NFS to mount network drives with this protocol (Windows shared folders, for example), to use content as any other unit in local mode (android programs can directly access the contents of these shares)
  • Optimizations in the I / O schedulers, and NAND parameters that improve read / write access to files and the memory.
  • Mali driver optimizations to improve response 2D drawing, and increase its graphic cache buffer.

(AnTuTu Benchmark results with new firmware settings, running at 1.32GHz and ondemand governor, getting about 10,000, slightly above the same test performed at a console and governor performance 1.5GHz)

The above changes, and others that have not been considered in the list, together they help make the system much more stable than the original firmware, applications getting less unexpected closures, better processing wakeup event after deep sleep and with this console is not left “hanging”, and even improvements in the boot, as the unit can be mounted microsd automatically from system boot, without removing and re-inserting the microSD (for the case of microSD 64GB, 32GB and even some of that before if gave problems)

Also, it is now possible to use units with less problems Sandisk Ultra 64GB microSD class 10, so far plenty of problems in this device (the hardware seems sometimes not correctly read the contents, but now you can even boot with microsd inserted, and that it is mounted at boot without problems, provided that the wifi is not active). In any case, avoid these cards and use other brands like Lexar and no more than 32GB (16GB going well), which has been shown to have fewer problems with the device.

On the screen refresh

There is a problem with the display driver, and that makes the system is restored within 60Hz when the console awake after sleep mode.

This problem is different from the originally detected 50Hz mode, and is set to boot the console, which has been applied to the leaves actually FIX at 60Hz, but once enters sleep mode and wakes up, the rate of soda back down, but by about 50Hz.

The existing workaround for this problem is to temporarily change the governors, and with this system sometimes returns to a 60Hz, but not 100% of the time.

They are looking to see if there is a solution to this problem which affects all existing firmwares so far, both official and Customs.

About the new driver controls: Tincore Driver

It has been completely rewritten the code for this driver, optimizing it and creating new interfaces for use with the tool Tincore KeyMapper.

(KeyMapper, with some of the new features such as Mouse Continuous mode)

The driver, having a more optimized code, earn much in execution speed and this results in a lower response time and action controls (Input lag)

Besides this, we have implemented to generate keyboard events to inactive mode KeyMapper, and thus can use the right stick console, simulating a 4-way digital stick that can be mapped into games and emulators enabling key mapping.

(Showing some of the features of the new driver)

When the driver is in “Keyboard” (KeyMapper off), the system sends the keys that correspond to:

  • D-Pad Up = Up Arrow Keyboard
  • D-Pad Down = Down Arrow keyboard
  • D-Pad Left = Left Arrow keyboard
  • D-Pad Right = Right Arrow keyboard
  • Stick Left = Same as D-PAD, but ranges values ??(analog behavior)
  • Right Stick Up = “I”
  • Right Stick Down = “K”
  • Right Stick Left = “J”
  • Right Stick Right = “L”
  • Button X = BUTTON_X
  • Button Y = BUTTON_Y
  • Button A = BUTTON_A
  • Button B = BUTTON_B
  • L1 Button = BUTTON_L
  • R1 Button = BUTTON_R
  • = L2 Button BUTTON_L2
  • Button R2 = BUTTON_R2
  • Select Button = BUTTON_SELECT
  • Start Button = BUTTON_START

This same layouts for the right stick is used by some native android games, and is associated genralmente crosshairs in FPS games. (Or the right stick in a standard command)

Note on the D-PAD

It has been confirmed that the d-pad is welded in the same tracks as the left stick, so it is not possible to separate these two controls.

Also it has been confirmed that the D-PAD, is actually an analog stick, but with the value ranges configured such that the result of the feeling of a digital use.

Other features of the driver

(KeyMapper using the original driver JXD)

The driver also maintains the possibility of using the original driver console, offering the same functionality as the JXD tool, plus the ability to save / load profiles of controls (this is what beats the original tool). This feature is useful, especially towards the development of new custom roms that failure to develop their own driver controls, you can always use the original driver JXD, and new mapping tool, allowing even eliminate that comes defect.

SXELROM Recustom

The status of this rom is “Beta”, that still need to be polished some programs, but is published to get more feedback on it.

This Rom is actually a Custom ROM that builds on the same SXELROM, and has customized over it (hence Re-Custom).

The objective of this rom is to provide a firmware image that is “install and use”, and is aimed primarily for users new to the world more consoles android (android in general) and that in principle are overwhelmed by the amount information and options available, both in forums and in the same google play, and we add the absence of a specific manual or to the console nor the emulators that run on it.

On the installed applications.

Special care has been taken not to include any payment application in ROM, so that all that have been installed can download and upgrade seamlessly from Google Play Store, or from official websites of each application (as the case some emulators free, but not found in the market from google)

What gives this rom?
Besides including a number of applications, both games and general system utilities, each application is configured with specific settings to have a system ready to use.

Below is a list of programs and settings made in this rom.

Note: To view these and other applications that can be useful, I suggest to visit this article .

As I write this note, these were the major programs included in the rom. If you add more in the final version or any unchanged, will update this list.

The rom automatically generates the necessary directory structure for the system to work properly Directory directory bind.

It is suggested that, after the first boot, leaving a couple of minutes and restart, to give you time to generate the directories and mount everything correctly on the second start.

If for any reason this generation is not successful, in the same installation package (Nandroid) directories are to be generated on the MicroSD, and a folder with directories to the internal memory. Simply copy the contents of this folder on the internal memory of the device.

About using Bind Directory.

We opted for the use of this program, as the rom does not come with the feature of the microsd Swap enabled, and some users may prefer to have internal and external memory, either because they do not have a microsd, or that is more practical to have the microsd as external memory.

If the console starts without a microsd activated, redirects will fail to generate these links, and therefore the use of microSD is “natural”, that is, the data is actually stored in the corresponding microsd.

Keep in mind that if you insert a microsd Directory and bind the program runs again, the data stored in the internal memory are no longer active, the return addresses to be active.

For example, if inserted the microsd, the emulator roms Mame4Droid look in the folder / mnt/external_sdcard/Romsets/Mame0.37b11 (for example), but if not inserted, seek their roms in the path / sdcard / ROMs / Mame4All/roms

This is convenient, because we have some roms (our favorite) stored on this route, and if we do not have the microsd with roms, we can launch the games that we have stored in the internal memory.

The same goes for the other directories configured, when not inserted microSD, android will access the directories “normal” existing in the microSD

How to add more directories?

It may be the case that a user wants to set up more links to directories. For instance, installing a GPS application (call MyAPPGPS, to give a name), and this application creates a directory in / sdcard / MyAPPGPS where download all information from maps, voices, etc..

If we want to move this directory to the microsd, and avoid the use of internal memory, simply add the appropriate link Directory bind, as follows.

  • Application Menu -> Add new entry

  • In the configuration window of the new entry, set in the source path (hold on the input field to open a browser window. MyAPPGPS create the folder and select the “Select” button):

  • In Target, set (do the same procedure as above, but this time selecting MyAPPGPS existing directory / sdcard):

  • Check the box to move the files to the new location
  • Add the entry using the “Add”

The program will start to copy the information from one place to another, and may be delayed depending on the amount of information you need to copy.

Known Issues

We have detected the following problems and their solutions corresopndientes:

Nova 3
To start the game, after the initial cinematic, the picture freezes.

Solution: This has generated a new patch to apply. Look in the patches section of this article. (Nova patch Patch)

Can not access drive “external_sdcard” from windows
When connecting the device, it appears the storage unit with “external_sdcard”.

This problem most likely relates to bad drivers installed on windows.

Solution: Disable the “USB Debugging” from the console, and then connect it to your computer.

(Units mounted properly on Windows)

If you still can not access the microsd (assuming the drive is not shown in external_sdcard), one has to check that the microUSB cable used is of good quality and not accidentally disconnect (the console’s USB port does not supports any cable is securely connected to, as most do not fit properly and are disconnected)

Alternatively, we suggest the following alternative to access the microsd, if one can access memory (usually sdcard):

  • Create the folder / mn / sdcard / shared_sdcard (use ES File Explorer, for example, to create it)
  • Using Bind Directory, create a link that points to “/ mnt / external_sdcard” (source) to “/ mnt / sdcard / shared_sdcard” (target). with this, we simulate a single sdcard that has access to the two memories.

This “trick” is valid also for other programs like AirDroid, who have no other options to access memory than “sdcard”, and with this we can access the memory microsd inserted in the device from the PC wirelessly .

As I said, the ROM comes in two flavors, clean and minimalist version, only the essential apps (including Retroarch emulator) and Recustom version with preset programs and emulators to install and use it.

Average SXELROM:

  • Download the appropriate file (see the links section of this article), and extract the contents of “TheXSample-SXelrom v1.0 for JXD s7300B.rar” to the root of your micro SD
  • With the console off, insert the microSD with the copied files, press and hold the [VOL +], and hold, turn on the console with the [POWER]
  • Hold down the [VOL +] until the image of an android with a percentage bar. The rom will install automatically and when the process will restart the console.
  • The rom is intalada.

Recustom ROM:

  • Download the file corespondiente (see the links section of this article), and extract the contents of “TheXSample-SXelrom Recustom v1.0 for JXD s7300B.rar”
  • In addition to the corresponding backup the rom, should be other empty directories that are used by Directory bind in the microSD
  • With the console off, insert the microSD with the copied files, press and hold the [VOL +], and hold, turn on the console with the [POWER]
  • Hold down the [VOL +] key until menu Clockwork Mod (Custom Recovery)
  • With the d-pad moves the cursor and [START] select “wipe data / factory reset”
  • With the d-pad moves the cursor and [START] select “wipe cache partition”
  • With the d-pad moves the cursor and [START] select “backup and restore”, then “restore”
  • In the next screen displays a menu to select the corresponding nandroid (SXELROM RECUSTOM v1.0). Select it and press [START]
  • Next, the installation of the rom (nandroid restoration) will be performed. When finished, select “Reboot system now” to complete the process and start the new rom.

Folder patches

Patches were generated with different kernels at different speeds to be applied to the ROM (either normal or recustom). These kernels are at speeds of 1.2, 1.32 and 1.5GHz. (The default console to 1.32GHz)

Patches have also been included to interchange the mounting points and the external_sdcard sdcard. This patch is valid to apply to any of the ROMs, but in the case of the funnels will recustom defined in Directory bind, cease to function, so it is suggested to install this patch only if there is knowledge of how to perform the adjustments to work properly (with disable bind directory should suffice, yes, redirects to roms folders no longer exist, and will have to copy the roms on those routes each emulator)

Important note: This patch of SWAP, is valid ONLY AND ONLY FOR THE CUSTOM ROM v1.0 SXELROM.

Within each file comes with the information necessary steps to install each patch.

This rom has been completed thanks to the work done by several persons with their contributions, both in code mode, suggestions, contribution of ideas and opinions, testing, etc., have contributed their bit to move forward with this firmware, between which encuentrana Tincore, Skelton, Christian Troy, fun_, fuser-invent, Lomax, Namco69, Yoshi41, Deen0X and who stay to name.

Thanks for shops and Zococity Willgoo, I have provided the necessary devices for testing and thus generate the necessary feedback to the team. (Because I have more than one console, I was able to perform a series of tests in parallel to obtain useful information that was used in the development of some of the features of the firmware)

I also wanted to give special thanks to the couples (wives, etc) several of whom have been working on this project, that it takes patience and an understanding that we do this because we love, and we want to share it with more people.

I hope this project is the starting point for more projects of the same type, which are extremely rich in both technical knowledge in general, but especially on a personal level, because in my case I managed to meet interesting people, who always is rewarding and I hope to keep in touch. ^ _ ^

JXD is a company that for some time has been providing gaming solutions based on Android system, but in all of them there is always some detail that do not give the key to presenting a product that can be considered a complete solution for Android games and especially for retro-gaming (emulation of old video game systems), and that with this console have nearly achieved, and that the product is not in general have a problem with your hardware, but this time the problem centers on the device software, so it is in the hand of the reach JXD make this console a top product.

But do not get discouraged, because the probability of getting a product that meets the most important requirements of any gamer are high, and in my opinion, the problems presented are completely solvable by software, but yes, this solution must come from JXD and his support team, as much as to tip the Android scene on this device without the system fonts (which usually JXD nor any other company like that are common to release) is very difficult, if not impossible, for a “cook” by very talented as achieve solutions.

JXD should be aware that this device has a before and after in the development of your product, and therefore sit (or should form) the basis of the following products that decide to launch.

JXD is now targeted by many people, even users who had never heard of it, and it all depends on how to respond to address the identified problems which get a significant amount of users and consumers of their products.

This review, like the above, try to make the product-centric as such and is not intended as a comparison with other products, but it is clear that given the current situation that has arisen lately for such products, comparisons with its closest (and only) competitor (Archos Gamepad) sometimes be impossible not to make them, but I want to make clear that in case of making such comparisons are simply to plot a difference, and not intended to solicit directly which alternative is better or worse. For this, I hope to write an article dedicated to both devices, to compare and help those who read it to draw their own conclusions.

For my part, I sincerely hope JXD achieve respond to the problems identified, and thereby dispel doubts about whether or not a serious company that cares about the service offered to customers, and not just a company concerned only to sell their products.

Since this article JXD invite (just as I did with Archos on their Facebook page), if you want to contact me to comment that I’ve been collecting suggestions to implement in your mapping tool and the system in general.

Unboxing and package contents

The box where comes the hard cardboard tablet is suitable for the transport of the tablet, but will often require additional protection in the face of the tablet shipment requiring a long trip, to prevent the tablet screen (which is looking towards the top of the box) received a blow and may damage it.

The sample sent presents a special coating to the tablet, which is that people Willgoo paid particular care in this respect, wrapping the console inside the bubble wrap packaging to provide extra protection (which in turn, is included within a carrying case).

This has meant that the inner packaging is not the original, since they have removed the cardboard divider inside, to make room for packaging (bubble) of the tablet.

I assume this extra package applies to all consoles that are sent.

The packet sent consists of the following elements:

  • Console JXDS7300B
  • Thin pin charger with European standard plug
  • USB Cable / OTG
  • MicroUSB data cable to connect to PC
  • Instruction Manual (Chinese / English)
  • Headphones / Headsets
  • Screen cleaning cloth *
  • * Carrying
  • 8GB MicroSD Class4 **
  • Screen saver installed on the console ***

* Items included in the store. Do not come in the standard package.

Card ** promotion included as the first units sold, the store included.

This protector *** apparently not part of the standard delivery. (Do not know if the sample sent only comes with this protector)

The device, and come in a plastic bag to keep dust and moisture, the screen has an extra shield from the factory, to be removed in order to use the device. This protector is removed by a blank paper tab can be seen in the image.

Furthermore, the rear is protected by a transparent film (plastic) to avoid friction marks on the manipulation of the device.

On the device

The first thing that draws attention to take the console is its weight, which is that after using for some time be other devices lighter, it is striking the weight of this console. It’s not too heavy, but if it is true that low quality products of Chinese origin (Tablets, for example) are much lighter.

The sample sent is matte black, which is very much appreciated and are not marked fingers or have glitter on its surface, which might disturb or distract the user.

The finishes are quite good in my opinion. For those who know or have had a chance to use the previous model JXDS7100 / B, most likely agree with me that in materials and finishes look so good and gives a good impression. For this console diichos and finishes remain to be improved.

On the

It has outstanding quality, has a small viewing angle and brightness is not very high, so that those devices are used to dealing with IPS panel will notice right away, but in my opinion the screen is enough and sufficient for what is a playing device. In general, the use of the screen will be in front of the tablet, and we rarely see from the side at an angle to the screen, so viewing angles should not affect us.

Detail screen edge JXDS7100B model

Detail screen edge JXDS7300B model

One thing to mention is that, so far, JXD products (excluding tablets) generally fit the screen on the devices so that they always have an edge with some relief and that becomes very annoying if you need access to the edges and / or corners of the screen with your fingers.

On this occasion, have softened the edges that face the screen, allowing easier access to the edges, but still an annoyance existing edge and it would be much better a screen without border between screen and chassis / frame Console and implements PSVita on your screen.

On the

Having tried previous devices JXD, knew they could generate good quality products. Such devices are’ve always used the JXDV5200 and JXDS7100B. Both devices have very good controls and buttons, especially ja JXDV5200, which in my opinion was the best console type PSP / PSVita of which I tested (at the controls).

Comparative sizes of action buttons and a PSP S7300B

In this console it shows they have taken great care in such detalels, since the action buttons in the same (X, Y, B, A) are similar to solutions touch more known and famous as the Sixaxis / Dualshock or like. The pressure is comfortable to hold and very good response. There is no sound annoying and typical “clack” with other products, and is without opening the console it shows that below is a fairly smooth membrane using the buttons.

A very positive point is that the buttons in the tests that I could perform have not found evidence of overlapping buttons (ghosts, wrong answer pressing several buttons at once, etc)

To illustrate this, I used a program that touches on the screen and, in conjunction with the mapping program, I’ve done this test:

As you can see, there are no problems when buttons are pressed simultaneously. In this test, I pressed the buttons A, B, X, Y, L1, L2, R1, R2 and I’ve moved the stick and the d-pad at the same time, and the console properly responds to everything (I could not try Select and press Start at the same time that I was unable to perform the test, but I think this is enough to remove overlapping)

We also have to note a point that I could end after this test. The device has a capacitive screen five simultaneous touch points, but the driver has no problem simulating all touch points that are needed, that is, in the test I have become to or simultaneous touch points (buttons, triggers and the point of the D-pad, which in the case of the console could be two contacts, but in the screen 1 is represented as a single point pressed)

This rule also some kind of problems in games that have overlapping buttons mapped, and we press a lot at once (more than the 5 naturally supported by the device). Examples of programs that will run efficiently, we emulators (mainly), we can set all controls virtual physical buttons, and have the assurance that the system can respond appropriately when pressed several buttons at once.

On the triggers

Some time ago I suggested a way to implement L2 and R2 triggers in standard models of consoles so far we were used to seeing

In the picture above, based on a YINLIPS YDPG18 (or similar) proposed adding two buttons at the top of the console, next to the triggers, so that with the same finger was feasible to manipulate the buttons, and is that as he could see was quite feasible to play that way.

Well, not if the consequence of this (not necessarily been the case), but JXD has implemented a very similar idea in this console, adding double triggers on each corner of the device.

Some users on forums have told me that the position is uncomfortable to play, but after play some titles for some time, I have come to the conclusion that they are actually quite comfortable, because when you are actually playing in the console (this or it) is easier to find that users are curved indices and perched on triggers, that following the surface of the console or command with the edge of the finger.

Long ago some people had occasion to consider the possibility of adding triggers to JXDS7100B model, and we JXD responded that the decision to launch the console without triggers was because in practice these were very uncomfortable trigger to use the tablet, which analyzed (and testing) the tablet effectively forced much the position of the hand and tired over time, but thanks to the new distribution that have made the controls, especially the analog (which are generally the most used) , the final position to have the console in your hands and use it normally do much more comfortable and easy to reach and use the triggers of the same.

Possibly using the D-PAD + Triggers now be a little more complicated, but the alternatives analyzing existing game on Android and emulators, use the analog will be more than enough (and comfortable) for most of them.

For my part, I think it was successful the new distribution of controls for this device 7 ”

On the D-PAD

The D-Pad is one condition, no separate buttons or alternative solutions. It’s a cross, as they are (and should be) the D-pad controls most famous and “serious”. It is very comfortable and very responsive to touch.

In the case of sample sent, has some difficulty pressing the counterclockwise direction, but I assume it’s a matter of the device is new, and will soften with use.

The cross of the D-PAD is a little bigger than normal for other devices, but to be a cross, almost all the same size. The important thing is that it is a D-PAD conditions.

D-PAD Comparison of PSP and PSVita

The feel is very smooth. Some people may find it too soft at first might trouble, but like everything else, is a matter of habit, and this particular pad will be easier to get used to other pseudo-dpads fomados by 4 buttons.

analgócios Sticks

We reached unod aspect that has generated more expectation this product.

As I said at the beginning of this article, JXD has long been on a sort of trial and error to see if they find the device that meets the demands and needs of consumers, and therefore generates much excitement whether JXD finally launched a device with real analog sticks, and if the left analog is linked or not with the D-PAD, and that this is the eternal problem that users of these consoles have been found since the existence of these products, as manufacturers launched products with the stick and the D-PAD linked, duplicating functionality, with the excuse that this was true for users decide to play with, it was for convenience, but never were raised that they had these two features separate controls.

After much discussion on the subject (in both forums, such as emails and other means, or intermediaries), JXD has begun to understand the user requirements and has been raised to provide a device that would meet these requirements … but the result was halfway.

The good : First, the actual analog analog actually are (you can move the stick and get a definite answer for a range of values, not just by a movement of pressed or not)

In the video below I show in a fairly simple answer to the sticks corresponds to a real analog response.

[Video=youtube; sqqtb_YH6-0 & fs=1 & source=uds "/>

In this test, I have enabled the option to show the highlights of the touch screen so that, by the mapping tool JXD, show happens on screen when I press or interact with the controls.

In this case, when I move the left stick, you see that I can move the touch screen within the range of action of the stick-defined mapping tool. For it to be a D-PAD (a digital stick), simply show a direct movement between the center of the virtual D-PAD and the edge, unable to keep touch between these two points.

[B] The downside [/b]: JXD not implemented in the analog sticks mapping tool, so it can not be assigned to its interface. To fix this (hopefully temporarily) and for the launch of the console, my impression is that they have implemented the mapping tool already operating in their previous devices (which have no analog support) and have been the JXDS7300B, adding R2 and L2 buttons, and to give a partial support, have made the tool interprets the same way as the left stick with the D-PAD, obteninendo the same result as in previous devices, this is a D-PAD Linkeado , so you can not assign digital control D-Pad and Left Analog Stick control separately in games or emulators like Mupen64, which has native support for analog, but when you deploy the program means that is depressing the D-PAD, as their response to the emulator is the face of a digital control.

I guess until they are implemented inthe analog controls mapping tool, we will continue having this problem of duplicate functionality controls (D-PAD Linkeo with the left stick)

In the video below you can see how, using the onscreen controls Mupen64 emulator, and JXD mapping tool, you can make Mario (Super Mario 64) can walk “on tiptoe” normal walking and even running, depending on how hard you tilt the left stick.

has uploaded a video on your channel [/url]), so we can confirm that in the case of the console S602 (and possibly other models JXD) the actual analog stick is analog, but JXD linkea (via software) stick to the D-PAD.

With this, I honestly do not understand the desire to duplicate the functionality JXD D-PAD with analog, removing a very important type of control for players (analog) without knowing very well that this decision. Long ago and Yinlips JXD (your competition) we responded (to users) that this was because it was simply “to let users choose the more control they settled”, which at the time we considered absurd, but an inspection devices at the time (over a year I’m talking about) actually had duplicate functionality at the hardware (the circuit was the same for the d-pad and analog), but today a console manufactured with these 2 types of controls to finally unite separate software is something that really can not understand.

Hope JXD attitude to keep doing this change, and that users get controls in conditions that makes android consoles.

Finally, it is clear that there is an evolution in the analog, both in position and in its size relative to the previous model.

For example, a picture:

Right Analog Stick

The right analog stick is another story, and that is directly assigned to a fixed position on the screen, and even the time of this writing there is no way to change this position.

In principle, this behavior has led to use the right stick in first person games (FPS), where usually right hand touch the screen to guide the eye (camera) of the action.

The biggest problem with this fixed allowance, is that on the one hand can not use the analog stick in emulators (mainly) and in games, except that they have a specific function in the area where the starting point of the movement screen.

The other problem is that the stick can not be mapped in any way in games or emulators, since such applications can not read or interpret the data provided by this control, and therefore the only program that can read it if you own the JXD mapping tool, but generating behavior that I mentioned earlier.

In addition, derivatives of this behavior, we found other problems. Games like Dead Trigger have configured (and can not be changed) to the left half of the screen is the stick motion (virtual joystick), and the right half of the screen corresponds to a view (camera).

As the fixed center of the movement is assigned to the right stick very close to the center of the screen (x=561, y=299), this means that there is very little room to move “freely” shot in the game, since that the division is set at 1024/2=512 to the left, leaving a small margin of 49 pixels dedicated to the left movement of the camera, which is inadequate for the game, as in practice hardly can rotate clockwise.

Note: if we mark with a finger on the screen in the game, on the right side, and we had the left side (beyond the center of the screen), the game stops and not move the camera that responds more touch point until Queno us mark a new point on the screen, lifting and posing the finger again on the right side.

The video below muetstra this problem.

In addition, there is another negative effect of this implementation is that if we pressed to one side control the camera (right stick), when the edge starts again from the beginning of the movement, but the game plays that should return the camera all the way, and it is therefore impossible to make a 360 ° continuous motion camera.

In the video below I used the game Shadowgun, where attempts to rotate 360 ??degrees with the right stick, but when it reaches the edge of the screen (the touch point, I’m showing with a white circle) the touch starts from the center, game and the camera returns to the same point, so there can be continuous movement of 360 º.

On the sticks in themselves are quite nice for its size. are embossed surface to make it easier to use. The only problem I could mention is that the top of these sticks are rotated on its axis, and in my case I prefer to be fixed (like a PSP or PSVita). I imagine that with modding these pieces could be set to not rotate more.

About the speakers

The sound you get from the speakers is surprisingly clear and clean. Lack power, but enough to hear a movie / video with a quite acceptable quality for the speaker size.

A very positive point to note is that the speakers are located in the front of the device, and in such a position that they do not become obstructed by the hands when using the controls on the console, so that the sound is generally directly to the user console.

On the connectors

This part I think is the worst comes to stop on the design of the console in general.

Both the charger connector (next to the L2 trigger) and headphones / earphones (next to the trigger R2) are too close to the triggers, and probably inconvenienced if we use the console connected to the charger or headset / earphones, especially those having rather large hands.

The truth is that I’ve been using the console these days, and usually use it with headphones, it is true that the connector has not bothered me mostly in the daily use of the console. Usually, the index fingers are used is arcuate in shape and use a naturally handheld (PSP, PSVita, NDS, etc.). Additionally, L2 and R2 buttons have much less use than the L1 and R1, so we rarely have the problem that the connector (either the charger or headphones) disturb us when playing.

The connector can present some problems if it is the microUSB, and that is too deep in the structure of the console, making it difficult to properly connect a microUSB cable, and when they have connected, you have to manipulate the console with care that the cable is accidentally disconnected.

Let me be clear that there is a problem with the connector itself, but there is plenty of shovels thickness in the chassis and therefore not allowed to connect more than a small part of a microUSB connector. If there is not a mod that fixes this, but carefully manipulating the cable can be used without problems, plus it is more difficult to damage the connector that allows almost no “play” to release the plate welds it.

On the ventilation

After inspecting the console, I have not found any ventilation or at least allow the device to dissipate heat.

I assume dentrás back cover there will be a heat sink to help maintain good temperature in the device, and that is the reason why after prolonged use much of the rear-left of the device has a temperature well higher than the rest (but not be a topic that comes to matter).

Testing (Benchmarking)
Benchmarking tests, usually run with the tools and AnTuTu Benchmark Standard Quadran. This time, I made a couple of adjustments happened to comment.

When performing tests AnTuTu, the result has given me has been just over 6000 points, which is well below what would be expected. Analyzing the data, it appears that the latest version of AnTuTu (3.1.1) otherwise some calculated values ??for this SoC.

I tried the previous version (3.0.3) and in the case of other devices I have, I still gave values ??similar to version 3.1.1, but has risen considerably AnTuTu score.

For now, I’ve done these tests with version 3.0.3 of AnTuTu to Mantet consistency over other devices I’ve tried.

Also, and this, I always use at least 2 testing tools. Here is my second tool Quadrant and I will compare the performance of this device like.

Finally, this time I have included a new test that is very popular at the moment (though I do not think it’s a complete test, but references will serve), I mean the Epic Citadel

Note: The device appears as a GT-I9100 (Samsung Galaxy S2), that has been changed to support the Market.

Official firmwares and custom firmwares

Official Firmware

Until the time of writing there was an official firmware (v1.1) published in the manufacturer’s download page , but some users have received a new update (v1.3) to be tested before publication.[*] Firmware v1.1 (01.26.2013) [*] Firmware v1.3 (04.02.2013)

How to install a firmware

The procedure is quite simple. Keep in mind that the update will remove the programs installed on the device.

  • In a microSD (of preferenica, formatted), will copy the files included in the update that you have downloaded. These files must be in the root of MicroSD

Note : Preferably, use a low-capacity microSD (less than 8GB, for example), which generate fewer compatibility problems when upgrading your system. Higher capacity cards also work, but to avoid any problems arising from an upgrade, it is preferable to rule out any such causes.

  • Then completely shut down the console (not to be on standby).
  • Press the “VOL +” and, without releasing the button, turn on the console with the “POWER”. Do not release the buttons until you see a screen refresh (an android with a progress bar). When they appear, release the buttons.

The device automatically run the updater. Once completed, the system will automatically reboot.

Note : It’s possible that the first time you boot the system, take a little more than usual.

Custom Firmware

We plunge into one of the most interesting parts of the device, is that several groups of sceners or “cooks” android have been interested in this console, with the intention of taking specific custom firmwares.

Generally, a custom firmware is a modified firmware from an original update, and that among other things you can add more functionality to the console, and even correction optimization problems, everything depends on the fonts that are available.

In the case of this console, unfortunately there are no sources of firmware, so the custom roms that can be generated simply be small improvements to the existing, but optimizations and fixes requiring background operating system can only come from the same manufacturer, since it is he who has the sources for these improvements.
Still, there are already some roms for this device, from which I could try, only 2 are worth comment, since others have been projects that have not been followed (I tested some roms that all they did was clean system pre-installed applications, but added nothing more to the end user)

Custom Firmware NCCE , is the first public custom rom being released, and that incorporates several optimizations to the system settings and original, which has a better support system for running applications / games, and a market more compatible with the device.

Skelrom v1.0, adds many optimizations and features that help to get a better experience of usage of the device for his owners.

Installing custom roms

Unless otherwise specified, the custom roms are installed the same way as an official update (see previous section for instructions)

ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery?

One stable and full featured version of CWM was released within Skelrom v1.0

You can check for info on this post.

This is a CWM based on the work of Christrian Troy, and eventually will be a tool to consider in the development of custom roms, for ease of distribution thereof.

Updated with a video of the CWM in action, in this case I have summarized a bit so as not to make long, but basically I recovered I had done previously nandroid console.

Overall system performance
Until you write this article, there is an update available only official tablet, and with which I base this comment section.

As I mentioned earlier, even in my previous article my first impressions of this device, as a piece of hardware and design seem right to me, and thanks to that I had a chance to try many options above Android-based consoles, I would comment that it is the best that I could try at the hardware level, and as design is cool, but improved.

Now, this view changes dramatically when we talk about the operating system and software generally console.

The overall system has various problems and which result in a poor user experience, and list them roughly as follows:

  • Applications do not run . Games like Nova 3, Modern Combat 3, Gangstar Rio and many other applications can be installed from the Google Play, but when run, freeze or just close, and it is impossible to execute.
  • Relentizaciones system . Many applications, especially emulators are affected by the relentizaciones which generally has the system. On this issue, most likely this problem is due to the governor configured on the device, and is that by default comes in type “Conservative” which makes us to spend the maximum speed of the console (default is 1.5GHz, and that after the update is official in 1.2GHz) at 48MHz, which makes the system responds is sometimes very bad and very late events such as touch-screen or keystrokes / btones.
  • problems mounting microSD cards . It has detected a problem that primarily affects the microSD card automount at boot. These problems happen more often with high-capacity microSD cards (32GB and 64GB mostly). Generally, the user must remove the microSD and reinsert it into the slot for the system to detect and correctly fitted. On using 64GB microSD card in the box specifications and the manufacturer’s website mentions that device support is up to 32GB, so I’m using 64GB giving is merely “experimental” and given the results I have obtained, I recommend using 32GB cards with the device to avoid further problems.Later I will discuss in a little more detail using 64GB microSD cards. (XDHC)
  • Mapping Tool for Analog unsupported . It is incomprehensible that product has gone to market without an appropriate tool that supports the device completely. I understand that the product has been removed using the existing on another device that simply added to the console, without adding new features that it incorporates as are analog (the L2 and R2 if they are included). Hopefully this will be resolved with an update of the system.
  • Stick D-PAD left and linked via software . This I’ve said before, but I perform stress upon this point, that is something any console user will immediately notice, and is not to be mapped, either physically or by virtual controls (on-screen) the D -Pad and the left analog stick separately in any game or application emulator. It has already been shown that both controls are separate, or at least have different functionalities (D-PAD is digital and analog stick is left), so that any user would expect to be able to map independently and naturally in any game.
  • Lack of profiles for the mapping tool . Every time we change application, we must reconfigure the controls defined in the mapping tool, and it’s very annoying.
  • frequent system restarts . After intensive use of the device (playing emulators), the system becomes unstable and quite often generated on restarts. As far as I can deduce and discuss with others, the more likely this problem is due to a misconfiguration speeds frequencies and / or voltages disopositivo. From what I’ve heard, the system is “castrated” (the new firmware) at a rate “raw”, that is, a value that is not calculated correctly and that can cause problems if misconfigured together with the voltage used.To discuss it in more simple words (for people who are not aware of what I’m trying to say), imagine that the console is like a car, depending on the speed / revolutions we have, we switch gears for the engine to operate in a very forced. Well, if we change these marches when they should not, for example, when we need more power when we lowered the gear or do not need the climb, the engine will start working improperly, and we can get to the point of stalling the engine.Well, something similar happens with Android table frequency and voltage. If the system is required we can find cases where there is sufficient force (voltage) and make the system “off” (restart), it would be like stall the engine. This could be improved with appropriate frequency table allowing all system go to more adequately.
  • Change mount point “/ mnt / sdcard” to have inserted microSD slot . It is one of the typical problems encountered by susuarios, and Android is that the system works with the mount point called sdcard, and this is where you install applications and download data. The problem with this is that if the mount point points to the device’s internal memory, space will be limited to the amount of flash memory available in the system (which in this case are about 6.1GB) and it will not insert a microSD nothing to expand this space. To explain this, we understand that the mount point “sdcard” Android is a fundamental part because it has this directory to store information, such as data that are downloaded from the games that are installed, and this mount point can not be “set” in the system is a fixed route and in the case of this console points to the internal memory. If we decide to insert a 32GB microSD in the device, this memory will be recognized by the system, but as a different mount point, in this case the folder “/ sdcard / external_sdcard” where “sdcard” is the internal memory ” external_sdcard “is the external memory, we inserted into the microSD slot. Thus, when installing games like The Dark Knight Rises, Dead Space, etc, each of these games can easily take more than 1 GB disk. As we sdcard pointing to the internal memory, which in this case are approximately 6.1GB (the rest of the system is used 8GB), we conclude that as we install 6 games of this type roughly … thing which clearly be insufficient for most users. Therefore, this behavior is to be identified as a problem by most users of this dispostivo.Note : This behavior I have described is not unique to the device, but applies to any Android device that includes internal memory.
  • Lag on some games or emulators . I detected some Lag when using some games, especially emulators. This lag is especially noticeable in emulators that come pre-installed with the device, where games like Metal Slug is so marked that a little hard to do properly play this title.Note : Overall emulators (almost all) have some lag in controls, but most are barely perceptible.
  • Dead Zone on Analog tiny . This is already more than unacuestión tastes, but as far as I can test sticks fail to focus completely, so sometimes they stay running some movement and you have to touch them to stay completely focused. This problem is solved extending a pixel area of ??the sticks Dead Zone. Perhaps this value could be configured from the same mapping tool.
  • System freezes while in sleep mode (screen off). Being with the screen off, the system suffers from frequent crashes / freezes and force reboot the system by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

I think with the above list I have put the most important points to consider implementing in future firmware upgrades and mapping tool this console.

Performance in Android Games

As I mentioned earlier, the original console firmware, or update existing at the time of writing, many titles do not appear in the Google Play Store or even to buy, and some of that if you can buy can not run on the console.

The first of these problems is something more or less common in Android devices and usually solves “modifying” some system files to basically do believe that we are another Android device, and we have more features (but not really have them).

Generally, for the change of ID using some other device with similar hardware, but is more popular, which help you gain compatibility of google Store to install applications on our device. In this case, the device that best fits is the Samsung Galaxy S2, that has good compatibility of applications and games, and sharing the same type of GPU, which is very important because depending on this data are downloaded the files corresponding to the game.

Overall, the device is not very friendly to make this change of ID, but eventually the existing Android cooks (those making changes in android devices) have managed to find several ways to make it more compatible Store.

The second problem is more complicated commented, is that sometimes you can download games from the store, but once downloaded can not run.

As in the previous case, Android chefs have managed to find more solutions to this issue, and today several titles that are not originally in the official firmware JXD if you can run using a custom firmware.

From now on I have conducted tests using as a basis a firmware Skelrom POC (proof of concept), that is, for the moment there is no publicly available version, but I hope that at some time a working version is released.

Then put some videos of games that are rather representative, and generate interest among users of the device, either by requiring power to run, or you simply can not run on official firmware.

In Android games, I’ll sort them into three types:

  • Games with native support Joystick : These are games that recognize when a joystick connected to the system, and can be used directly. Generally, these games have a configuration screen joystick / gamepad, where you can assign roles to play physical buttons. For the JXDS7300B, in the current firmware (at time of writing) there is no joystick interface to be recognized in the games, so none of them recognize the controls and buttons on the device like a joystick connected to the system, so it can not be configured game actions on the buttons of the device.

Here are some examples of Android games running on the console.

N.o.v.a. 3

As mentioned, the games do not allow a direct mapping of controls and do not recognize the device as a joystick, although in this case is that there is no native support in the game, which necessitates the use of the touch interface of the same and map it to the mapping tool.

Fortunately, the controls are sufficient (although improved, by JXD interface). Sometimes unresponsive controls the fluid which is to be expected, but definitely played much better than using your fingers on the screen.

Call of Duty Black Ops – Zombies

The interface responds quite well, although sometimes the right stick seems unresponsive and you have to repeat the commands for the game to respond correctly.

Grand Theft Auto III – 10th Anniversary

The controls, although there are not enough buttons to map all functions can be mapped the most important and the game is fully playable.

Rayman Jungle Run

Fluent in the title, although it is true that there is a power, if it is true that some devices have sound problems when running.

The Dark Knight Rises

Va relentizaciones some, but overall the title is playable and responsive controls quite well.

Modern Combat 3

It plays pretty well, although everything is touch support (using the mapping tool). Earn a lot of these games if handled with physical controls.

Dead Space

Title with good graphics, good running on the console. The mapping screen creates some problems, and slowly move the right stick with the game sometimes interpreted as shooting, so sometimes we do not expect action.

Draw Race 2

This title can not play with the controls on the console, it’s a game that uses the touch screen. I put it as an example to other types of games that are geared exclusively to be played with the touch screen, running without any problems on the console. (I have received messages asking if you can only play games on the console controls, and this video is to clarify)

Fifa 12

Example classic game with virtual controls (on-screen), and is the perfect candidate to be used by the mapping tool.

Gangstar Rio

Particularly difficult game to run on official firmware and some customs that I could try. The game, with the custom firmware right, runs in a very soft, and the onscreen controls are mapped perfectly.

Jet Set Radio

From the few games I could prove that there is no need to map anything, because the game recognizes all buttons directly on the stick (at least the ones you need). yes, the buttons are configured to use the triggers of the console.

Need for Speed ??Most Wanted

Talking graphically spectacular game, and it gives a feeling total immersive console.

I caught two games, to show the response of the tilt sensor (Tilt), and setting the game to be used by the left stick. In either of the two ways, the game runs very smooth and very responsive controls.

Performance emulators

We reached another aspect that generate more interest these devices (Android Console), and the chances of retro-gaming via emulators is wide and varied.

As I usually do, I will focus on two types of emulators that may generate more interest, because they are more requirements that have to be executed correctly. I mean Nintendo 64 emulation, that in this review I have N64oid based program, and Playstation (PSX, Playstation One), which in this case I have relied on the emulator ePSXe.

Nintendo 64 (N64oid)

The following list contains a number of games, mainly, I focus on those who are particularly difficult to emulate, so do not be surprised to see many relentizaciones since the goal of these videos is that everyone can draw their conclusions by looking at the performance of the console running these roms, and if possible to compare with the more powerful devices, which also fail emulation but thanks to the power of another machine will be less noticeable these failures.

I have also captured some titles more “normal” to be emulated, and running perfectly.

Conquer’s Bad Fur Day

This title is one of the most difficult to implement, and therefore is a very good test of emulation.

In this video you can see the full intro, and the requirement that asks the emulator and the machine in general.

The second video shows gameplay of the title, which may be more representative than an intro. The title can be played, but at the cost of having a relentizaciones quite annoying at some points.

Killer Instinct Gold

This is another of the titles that have some problems to be emulated correctly. The gameplay looks good, with some minor graphics, and a typical problem in the menu are not proper images.

Mario Kart 64

Generally this title has no major problems, except for some occasional microsaltos, but this console has run very smoothly and without any problems.

Zelda Ocarina of Time

Finally, a game that I have reference for emulation, and that many people know. Here is the full intro video with a little more gameplay.

Playstation (ePSXe)

Generally, to use the emulator FPSE PSX, but this time there is a technical problem that prevents proper testing with this emulator, and the console comes with a screen with a refresh rate of 50Hz, and the emulator FPSE uses this rate refresh (the screen) as the maximum refresh for emulation, and therefore PAL games should not present problems in emulation (PAL=50Hz), but if you have NTSC games relentizaciones and / or accelerations, and sound synchronization problems because the NTSC refresh rate=60Hz, so you should adjust those FPSE 60 Hz to display at 50Hz, and to do that, just remove intermediate frames, which is noticeable when running titles.

The problem of the screen are not sure if it’s something fixable via software (with a system update), but as the ePSXe emulator does not base its maximum refresh rate on the screen, the titles generally run better with this emulator.

The emulation in some titles is not very fluid, which surprised me, but running the No-Frills CPU governor and setting the device to “Performance2″ fluency is gained in emulation.

The mapping of controls, Nintendo64 like to have a left analog mapping, you must use the virtual analog (on screen) and map it to the mapping tool.

The right analog is not possible to map it, but we must not be surprised, because in other devices or even using a joystick connected to the console (or other tablets / devices), it is not possible. (Perhaps due to lack of full support in stick / the emulator / s)

Do not confuse this with the inability to set the right stick in games or in the same JXD mapping tool. They are different things that need to be analyzed separately.

Tekken 3

My game consoles fetish to test, and it gives me a lot of information at the time of use.

The game runs with some acceleration and / or occasional relentizaciones but when performing movements with precise timing (Tekken players will understand what I mean), usually generate some problems. I guess the theme of investigating the emulator settings could generate an appropriate combination of options to run fluently title. In my case, I left almost untouched the emulator in the options, so that the video shown is configured the emulator just to see who will take this into account and draw your own conclusions.

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter

With this title I try to show the use of the D-PAD, plus the combination of buttons to get powers.

The ball moves more or less come without complications, although it should be noted that the “focus” of the D-PAD (below left stick) requires some practice to get the D-PAD to 100% as much marked the beginning biases, and that the original position of the hand is not what we are used to driving on a console.

Anyway, using the D-PAD is quite smooth with practice, and I for one do not see any problem.

The combination of double button ball + (A + B, R1 + R2, etc.) has trouble being executed. On other devices this combination usually generates some sort of problems, mainly related to overlap, but in this console go without any problems. The action buttons are very soft to press and respond properly if you press 2 (or more) at a time.

Guilty Gear

Another fighting game, and that is to try the D-PAD, in my case I think they are the best “testers”.

In this case I am no expert in this game, but the video tries to show more or less runs the title in the console (see beyond my ability in the game, which is unfortunate, I know).

Ghost In The Shell

This already is a game that more or less has no problem to run on most devices. It plays pretty well, although in this case, by the lack of custom, the triggers are well away from the buttons, and you have to “train” with the console to play with this configuration.

Crash Bandicoot

This title is used as evidence, mainly because it is a very popular game for many people and therefore can serve as a point of reference to understand how it goes about console emulation titles such concerns, which incidentally I must say that the title is very smooth and without any problems.

This time, I installed a program to record a log of the status of the battery, the Battery Log (Hwang Tae-rok), and basically records a log for each percentage change battery.

According to the logs I got the first few days, where I give more work to the console, so I put it to download games from the market (to have the updated versions, and the correct files in the console that I PROAR) and while I’m playing download (to get a general idea of ??the device), or do I by ADB to verify things, copy files, or just with the ES File Explorer copy things from the network (SugarSync). With all this, I mean that I give enough use the device, especially for wifi, and that is where the battery goes but is by this point.

Also, the screen has always been at the maximum brightness.

Well, according to the logs, I managed to have the console to stop working for about 3 hours continuous with some warming in the back left of the device.

Note: I checked the log while in the original firmware of the console, with a 1.5GHz processor (not castrated), and governor=conservative (the default one)

With all this, I think with normal use may exceed 4 hours (and I think being overcome), and should not normally take the wifi constantly enabled (no sense for example in the subway, bus, etc. where there is no wifi to connect to) and the screen at maximum brightness (with 70% should suffice in most conditions)

So with all this, I can conclude that the battery life is “decent”. For now do not say a specific duration, that until the time of writing this review I’m taking a tear to the console, but I think I mentioned above that you can make a general idea about the use and duration of the .

Of course, unlike other devices I have, the battery will take considerably longer to load, which I think is “normal” for a battery that is supposed to have a duration “decent” for these devices. (Notice I use the term “decent” for a fact that I have no need to estimate and provide for the review)

Dingoonity forum there is a picture of the device removed, and you can see that the battery is 4000mAh riding.

Pros, cons and improvements

Well, as in every article we come to what many people are actually interested, and to see the positive and negative features the console, which in the case of this device is quite extensive (in both directions)

  • Material and surface quality. think the product in general has a very good finish, and it shows that there is a care in this respect if we compare with previous product that has brought this manufacturer.
  • Including two analog sticks. After much to ask in forums and try to contact the manufacturer, have finally included two analog sticks on the console.
  • Dual-Core CPU. It was the normal evolution JXD devices, and the mono-cores were running outdated as leisure alternatives.
  • Including double triggers (L1, L2, R1 and R2). We have spent the previous model, the JXDS7100 / B did not include triggers, to include four of a kind traditional controller dualshock.
  • Front speakers output. The sound is not covered by the hands, and comes with enough clarity and sharpness.
  • Buttons soft and of good quality.
  • D-PAD in conditions (one piece), and positioned properly on the console. To taste, there are probably people who would have preferred the D-PAD on analog, but after trying other alternatives, I think that is the best position they have achieved, as the most commonly used controls are the analog sticks, and this console have gotten uncomfortable than fuck with thumbs pressed while the triggers with the indices, and the position of the D-PAD not bother at all to play fighting games, which are the most used this type of control .
  • 1GB Ram, is the first console JXD including this amount of Ram. (Of course, if they wanted to present a solution with Jelly Bean, needed to raise the amount of system memory, since the traditional 512MB would not be enough to run smoothly JB)
  • I will consider as a positive that has agreed to hear JXD, albeit indirect, which asked users for some time, and I have included in this console. Things like adding analog, add double triggers (add triggers to the previous model), earning potential, etc., are things that are asked and have finally achieved in this device.
  • JXD response to urgent problems that users have expressed, resulted in an update that has effectively solved any of the problems (in this case, the Update 1.3 solves the problem that the d-pad to tarry “locked” , and thereby carry out actions that games do not expect)

Let me summarize the points I have mentioned previously in “General System Performance”

  • Low operating system stability in general (in the firmware released with the console), resulting in many crashes and / or freezing of the console or multiple consoles showing complete non-response errors, forcing the closure.
  • Poor and insufficient implementation of controls mapping tool, which does not include analog.
  • Mirroring functionality and D-PAD Analog (incomprehensible at this point to continue doing this.) to be duplicated, it can be mapped independently controls in these games and / or emulators.
  • Fixed preset action and right stick, continuous motion starting from a fixed point on the screen.
  • Inability to use the right stick in any application / game, if not through the mapping tool JXD
  • No Select and Start buttons in the mapping tool
  • Application Profiles not implemented in the mapping tool, which requires manually configure the button layout, every time we change the game.
  • With the firmware that comes with the device, and to date the official firmware released by the manufacturer, still can not run some applications / popular games such as Nova3, Modern Combat 3, Gangstar Rio, etc.
  • Relentizaciones overall system, especially in some emulators like FPSE. (Possibly by the refresh rate of the screen, set to 50Hz)
  • Heating of the rear-left of the console, after prolonged use.
  • Difficulty assembling some types of microSD (generally large capacity, 32GB and 64GB particular, although we should not consider the latter, because the device is not officially supported for these cards / capacity)
  • Dead Zone too small for analogue and problems that result in involuntary movements.

Besides the obvious mentioned in the Cons, there are some that need to be mentioned separately:

  • Allow mapping the right stick in other applications
  • Generate a joystick interface that can support applications that map directly controls, particularly analog (examples FPS)
  • Develop the mapping tool, which has great potential but is currently in its “infancy”
  • Although already do, albeit indirectly, would be good JXD opened a channel of communication with some sceners and for “counseled” about which things should change / improve, and especially work together to plan a future revision of this console.

My first impression of the console still maintain, is that by taking note that the device has nothing to do with what has been done so far (well, the previous model was already pointing to this result).

Controls, buttons, device structure, all give a very good impression as a whole, but that is quickly overshadowed by the software that came with the device, and that both the firmware (operating system) as the exclusive tools console (basically, the mapping tool) fail at an alarming rate, removing every good feeling that you can offer the product at first contact.

Frequent Crashes when leaving the console in standby mode, the system generally relentizaciones product of a poor implementation of the speeds and the “governor” set, and a number of other factors, cause the operating system be optimized and so little rather unstable, which removes the desire to use the tablet.

Furthermore, if we add the mapping tool, apart from the L2 and R2 buttons, you do not stop being the Select and Start earlier versions of the software and can be found in other devices, the set of all these problems will take everything the overall attractiveness may have the console.

Fortunately, the manufacturer is rsepondiendo to user requests, resolving some of the problems with the device, and we add that the scene is actively working on it, with “android cooks” who are preparing Custom versions based Firmwarse the officers, and that optimizes, albeit not significant, but are coming together a number of things that result in interesting custom firmwares, and make the system manages to win the general interest.

If JXD follow the path of listening to users and troubleshoot the device, 99% are related to software so they can solve them and post them as an update, we could be on the verge of a very interesting device that could generate a landmark in Android consoles in general, and with this set as a benchmark in terms of this type of device.

Even so, and in the state that is currently the console and the scene, the device meets expectations, albeit very fair because there are still things to polish.

However, using this device and its controls are infinitely more comfortable and convenient to play titles like shooters, using fingers above the screen, obscuring part of this vision and, above all, that the controls for a virtual ” gamer “in general are the worst controls you can use to fully enjoy a game.

For my part, I have enough faith that knows JXD live up to the expectations it has generated in its product, and respond with updates, patches or whatever it takes to provide the experience that users looking for gamers with this device.

Final Words

It has been a pleasure writing this article and leave my impression reflected on the device.

I hope this article will be useful for those seeking information on the device, and that my writing helps dispel doubts rather than to generate them.

And of course, any error you see tell me to correct it.

JXDS7300B – First Impressions

First look and impressions about JXDS7300B

There is a spanish version of this article on the Deen0X’s Blog

This article is not a full review, is my very first impressions about the device and i want to share with you, before my review.

Take a note that this first impressions may change when i write the full review of the product in the next days.

And, please, apologize my poor english. I will do my best to write this article and make it understandable.

Quality of the product

The first impression when i got the device is that is a good  quality product, away from what usually come from chinese factories and many people related directly as chinese = poor quality. The true is this device give a feel of a very quality product, with quality materials in his building.

Te device weight is 430grs, and this is noticeable when you get the device in your hands. First time you can think the device is too weight, but really is the normal weight for many high end devices that in many cases raises the 500grs.

If we take as a reference the previous JXDS7100/B (for who know), i consider these devices as a good building products, and this new JXDS7300B is an evolution from them, raising these quality on few points.

The surface, in the case of the sample testd (the black model) is matte, keeping clean from fingerprints and other typical spots/stains that we can found on most common devices with touch screen. Is so comfortable to the eye, because there is no shines/glitters.

The back face have a soft curvature on the borders, and this is so comfortable when you get the device in your hands. Is better than JXDS7100/B

Ports and slots

Here is the first thing i see as potential problem (not a serious problem).

The phone connector/port is too near of the R2 button, and this may be annoying, specially for those have big hands.

The power connector have the same problem. Is too near of the L2 button.

Analyzing the front of the device, there is a possible reason because the manufacturer put these two connectors in these locations: The screen is too big and don´t let a margin that let the connectors feet completely. The space may be not enought for the lenght of the phones plug, then i figure they decided to put this on the border of the screen to avoid problems with this.

In the next days i will do more testing with the device, and i will tell you about this issue.

I was surprised by the Speakers audio quality, without being exceptional, is very clear and clean.

A very good point is that the location of the speakers, in the front of the device, and under any button/controller, help too much because the speakers never get obstructed by the hands, and sound get directly to the user.

Buttons and controllers

The action buttons (A, B, X, Y) are softly when pushed and there is no “clack” sound when pressed, typically on other products of the same kind. You can feel that the buttons have a membrane that help to soft the pressure.

Shoulder buttons are ok. Maybe for some users with big hands are a little bit annoying because his location, but i’m sure this is a practice question to get comfortable with them.

There is a point about shoulder buttons. When i playing Samurai II: Vengance, i mapped R1 to the somersault in the game, and attack to X and Y buttons.

In game, when i put away my fingers form X and Y buttons, when i try to push again these buttons i lost the space reference of them, and always push on the right stick by mistake. I’m sure this “issue” will dissapear with a little bit of practice with the device.

Ok, this is a real D-PAD, not a 4 buttons that emulate ones. I noticed that the D-PAD Left of the sample i testing is a little bit hard to press than the other directions. I assume this issue will dissapears with the normal use of the device.

The Analog Sticks

This is one of the most important points of this device, and a question that many people have been doing these days, because JXD always fall in the same error on each of his previous devices, linking the D-PAD with the Analog stick, and losing the real analog from any device.

Fortunely, this time they put real sticks on the device, and this is the first thing i tested on the device.

I captured a video where i show and confirm that the sticks (both of them) are real.

The video above i grabbed using my phone, and don´t get a good quality, but is enought to understand the way i tested the sticks and with this get the confirmation about real analog sticks.

The main problem now are from emulators. Only few of them have support for analog sticks. I tested Mupen64, wich supposedly have support for analogs, and i cannot map correctly the D-PAD and Left Stick in separated way, not linked, and the C-Buttons to be assigned to the right Stick.

Note: Sometime, in some test, i can handle D-PAD and Left Analog in separated way, and i get them mapped unliked in the emulator, but when i tried again to mapping these controls to grab a video, i cannot get them unliked again, and until now i don´t know how to do again.

I’ll keep testing to try to get the way to map these controls in separated way (unliked)

The right stick is not suprised to me, because with other devices i cannot get them to be mapped to c-buttons too, except if i use some tool such GameKeyboard, that let me assign Sticks to keys from a standard keyboard, and with this map these controls in any emulator as normal keys.

Anyway, I managed to map virtual controls of the Mupen64 emulator with the physical controls of the device, and i get Mario to walk normally (not running) in Super Mario 64 when i push softly on the stick. (and run if i push heavy)

Finally, about controllers, i must comment about a weird behavior of the Right Stick when the mapping tool is active. The mapping location is fixed on screen (near the center of the screen) and behavior is similar to “Target” button type on the Archos Gamepad Mapping tool. You can see what i talking about from minute 1:05 of the video i posted above.

Until now, i don´t know how to change this assignment.

About the Screen

the quality of the screen is normal for a product of this specs/price. Not bad, but no exceptional.

Vision angles are so similar to other products from this same kind, and his weak point is viewing from bottom of the screen.

The bright i feel a little bit low. This point i will test when i use normally the device next days, when i’m on the street or the underway. For now i think is enought for normal usage.

One think i realized is that JXD make soft borders and now is easier access to the edges of the touch screen. Previous JXD products have this “problem” that all of them have heavy borders, and this difficult to touch the borders of the screen.

Well, from now this is my first impression of the device. Now i will work in the review.
