Yes, we had contacted the news for JXD S7300C with the factory for many many times. Still no luck till now. Their sales men confirmed us that this game pad S7300C is still not available. Then why you still can see some listing on other sites? Strange?

It looks like JXD S7300 exactly! Yes, the manufacture just used the same mod but replace different chip on S7300C. The chip is: RockChip 3188, Quad Core, 1.6GHz (cortex A9 CPU, ARM mali400 mp4 GPU). Yes, from dual core to quad core. It is said that this chip allow new JXD S7300C run more fast. No more words powerful than the real testing. Once we get the sample, we will find ways to test it, which you may be interesting.

These comments are dated back to 2013. And we got the common knowledge that JXD S7300C is the new product in 2014 then it is ridicule to find comments dated back to last year. One thing we can figure out is that the item that sold in JXD Tmall is not JXD S7300C but JXD S7300!

Some one may found 7300c game pad is listed on other on line shop- in English. You can search it on Google then you will find some. But they are not real. JXD S5800 Prototype Had Been In Hand Now!

What is your expectation on JXD S5800? Just a small version of JXD S7800B or another good choice for 5 inches Android gaming tablet? Well, no need to wait too much time as we had got the JXD S5800 prototype today. More details will be released in these coming days!

My first impression on JXD S5800 gaming tablet is that it is another Much i5. Yes, S5800 is much like much i5 but with more buttons. Supporting phone function makes this gaming tablet more than a gaming console. I think this is JXD’s first step entering into Gaming phone tablet market with releasing this new device. No doubt that there will be more and more competition in this market in 2014. Whatever, JXD S5800 gets a lower price than Much i5. But the lower price does mean a worse quality.

So far as what we tested, this JXD S5800 console has a better compatibility on most emulator games- Big Android game, NDS, PSP, PS1, N64, MAME ect. The trigger buttons and joystick are good- much like what you did on JXD S7800B. But smaller size allow you to carry this device easier. We will release you the video on testing the games next week. The one that we got is the white. As white color is my favor, this white JXD S5800 fullfill my dream on owning a small size JXD S7800- so far JXD only produce the only one color for this 7 inches device- the black one. For JXD S5800, there will be both black and white colors available.

Introduction 

I had the opportunity to participate as a member of TheXSample team, which has taken aim to continue with Skelton generated custom roms, but for JXDS7300B, and this article is the presentation of this paper that this time I come to make known to the community.

To summarize a bit, basically characterized by Skelroms roms be simple, without much customization to user level (no or spectacular effects, and special options or anything like that), but are based on the original roms that basically bloatware clean software (software typically Chinese filler or manufacturers often place), and that both are added to a series of specific tweaks to achieve gain, insofar as possible, but stability in the system, better CPU performance and better compatibility in the market google.

For with the same philosophy, the new Team wanted to continue generating its own version of the Skelrom, which by giving a nod to users, in clear reference to their origin have wanted to call S ELROM with an “X” (which is the same name of The Sample), and clearly favors the confusion (or similarity) with the original rom, so users feel the familiarity of this firmware , or at least know where it comes from.

To say that this rom development takes time, basically because most of its members are, or with very little time to devote to the project, or you are with other projects, but that everyone has to try to meet interested in collaboration, continue working on this project.

The release of the sources has been a major milestone to generate the synergy necessary for the project to take a more definite shape, and especially the incorporation of some members who have contributed in a fundamental way in the development, particularly in the kernel, along with other important pillars such as the driver of the controls and the new mapping tool, which already know [/url] at this height.

Well, that said, it is simply an introduction to this post, I present this new Custom Rom, in which I have been fortunate to participate, albeit rather indirect, in its development (basically as tester and suggesting some options )

Will list only the main features present to the generation of this article.

(Separate mount points for the internal memory and the microSD)

  • Based Skelrom v1.0 for JXDS7300B, and updates the stock firmwares 1.4 (sources, firmware not publicly released) and 1.5 of JXD, so it includes all the fixes applied Skelrom, and novelties latest official firmware.
  • Includes new boot image, boot animation and wallpaper
  • Code cleanup, based exclusively on official sources. It contains traces of software or components outside the console.
  • New system mount points. Now sdcard and external_sdcard are level (not mounted one inside the other) with the swap can be done more easily.
  • Improved console deep sleep. When the wifi is not active, the console consumes much less battery when idle.
  • Fixed problem in some games Graphic Apps generating glitches on screen (example: Guerrilla Bob)
  • Changes to optimize the system, cache, SQLite, etc..
  • Rom to 1.32GHz by default. This includes patches to change the CPU frequency.
  • Kernel built from the sources provided by Skelton and Tincore, with several features ( look at the section on Kernel )
  • Implementation of new governors for the console specific, taking into account the same hardware to generate these configurations and their corresponding optimizations. Of these governors highlights especially the so-called “ondemand” that manages to remove over 10,000 points in AnTuTu, with a 1.3GHz single console (without unnecessarily stressing the CPU to achieve this result)
  • The governor “ondemand” also allows, among other things, the execution more “cold” system, as it requires no unnecessary stress causing the CPU to run at top speed steadily.
  • FIX is rejoining the 50Hz screen, the same as it has been suggested to incorporate into your firmware JXD 1.5 ( See the note on the screen refresh )
  • Generating new driver controls, Tincore completely rewritten and improved features that include the console input lag (less response delay in controls).
  • Adding new mapping tool KeyMapper [/url] “, with specific options for this firmware ( look at KeyMapper Tincore section for more information )
  • Two versions to install this rom. A clean (keeping the essence of a Skelrom), and a “RE-Custom”, which is basically the same as the clean, to which have been added some emulators and programs that are already pre-configured. This rom is basically disñeada for novice users in the android world, and they need a little help in order to start using the console and its emulators. ( See paragraph RE-Custom )

About the new Kernel 

The kernel of this rom is generated based on the sources released by JXD for this device, and corresponding with the official version 1.4 (which was released with minor changes as 1.5)

(New governors added)

Among the notable changes on sources, we can highlight the following:

  • Changes in CPU and voltage parameters, to slightly reduce the temperature and give more stability to the system.
  • New governor “hotplug” added to the list of available governors.
  • New governor smartass renamed to “ondemand” added to the list of available governors.
  • Governor “ondemand” HAL uses bootspulse JellyBean, so the console with your specific hardware adjusts best to the speed you need.
  • Support CIFS / NFS to mount network drives with this protocol (Windows shared folders, for example), to use content as any other unit in local mode (android programs can directly access the contents of these shares)
  • Optimizations in the I / O schedulers, and NAND parameters that improve read / write access to files and the memory.
  • Mali driver optimizations to improve response 2D drawing, and increase its graphic cache buffer.

 

(AnTuTu Benchmark results with new firmware settings, running at 1.32GHz and ondemand governor, getting about 10,000, slightly above the same test performed at a console and governor performance 1.5GHz)

The above changes, and others that have not been considered in the list, together they help make the system much more stable than the original firmware, applications getting less unexpected closures, better processing wakeup event after deep sleep and with this console is not left “hanging”, and even improvements in the boot, as the unit can be mounted microsd automatically from system boot, without removing and re-inserting the microSD (for the case of microSD 64GB, 32GB and even some of that before if gave problems)

Also, it is now possible to use units with less problems Sandisk Ultra 64GB microSD class 10, so far plenty of problems in this device (the hardware seems sometimes not correctly read the contents, but now you can even boot with microsd inserted, and that it is mounted at boot without problems, provided that the wifi is not active). In any case, avoid these cards and use other brands like Lexar and no more than 32GB (16GB going well), which has been shown to have fewer problems with the device.

On the screen refresh 

There is a problem with the display driver, and that makes the system is restored within 60Hz when the console awake after sleep mode.

This problem is different from the originally detected 50Hz mode, and is set to boot the console, which has been applied to the leaves actually FIX at 60Hz, but once enters sleep mode and wakes up, the rate of soda back down, but by about 50Hz.

The existing workaround for this problem is to temporarily change the governors, and with this system sometimes returns to a 60Hz, but not 100% of the time.

They are looking to see if there is a solution to this problem which affects all existing firmwares so far, both official and Customs.

About the new driver controls: Tincore Driver 

It has been completely rewritten the code for this driver, optimizing it and creating new interfaces for use with the tool Tincore KeyMapper.

(KeyMapper, with some of the new features such as Mouse Continuous mode)

The driver, having a more optimized code, earn much in execution speed and this results in a lower response time and action controls (Input lag)

Besides this, we have implemented to generate keyboard events to inactive mode KeyMapper, and thus can use the right stick console, simulating a 4-way digital stick that can be mapped into games and emulators enabling key mapping.

When the driver is in “Keyboard” (KeyMapper off), the system sends the keys that correspond to:

  • D-Pad Up = Up Arrow Keyboard
  • D-Pad Down = Down Arrow keyboard
  • D-Pad Left = Left Arrow keyboard
  • D-Pad Right = Right Arrow keyboard
  • Stick Left = Same as D-PAD, but ranges values ??(analog behavior)
  • Right Stick Up = “I”
  • Right Stick Down = “K”
  • Right Stick Left = “J”
  • Right Stick Right = “L”
  • Button X = BUTTON_X
  • Button Y = BUTTON_Y
  • Button A = BUTTON_A

This same layouts for the right stick is used by some native android games, and is associated genralmente crosshairs in FPS games. (Or the right stick in a standard command)

Note on the D-PAD 

It has been confirmed that the d-pad is welded in the same tracks as the left stick, so it is not possible to separate these two controls.

Also it has been confirmed that the D-PAD, is actually an analog stick, but with the value ranges configured such that the result of the feeling of a digital use.

Other features of the driver 

 

 

(KeyMapper using the original driver JXD)

The driver also maintains the possibility of using the original driver console, offering the same functionality as the JXD tool, plus the ability to save / load profiles of controls (this is what beats the original tool). This feature is useful, especially towards the development of new custom roms that failure to develop their own driver controls, you can always use the original driver JXD, and new mapping tool, allowing even eliminate that comes defect.

SXELROM Recustom 

The status of this rom is “Beta”, that still need to be polished some programs, but is published to get more feedback on it.

This Rom is actually a Custom ROM that builds on the same SXELROM, and has customized over it (hence Re-Custom).

The objective of this rom is to provide a firmware image that is “install and use”, and is aimed primarily for users new to the world more consoles android (android in general) and that in principle are overwhelmed by the amount information and options available, both in forums and in the same google play, and we add the absence of a specific manual or to the console nor the emulators that run on it.

On the installed applications. 

Special care has been taken not to include any payment application in ROM, so that all that have been installed can download and upgrade seamlessly from Google Play Store, or from official websites of each application (as the case some emulators free, but not found in the market from google)

What gives this rom? 
Besides including a number of applications, both games and general system utilities, each application is configured with specific settings to have a system ready to use.

When connecting the device, it appears the storage unit with “external_sdcard”.

Installation: 

As I said, the ROM comes in two flavors, clean and minimalist version, only the essential apps (including Retroarch emulator) and Recustom version with preset programs and emulators to install and use it.

Average SXELROM: 

 

  • Download the appropriate file (see the links section of this article), and extract the contents of “TheXSample-SXelrom v1.0 for JXD s7300B.rar” to the root of your micro SD
  • With the console off, insert the microSD with the copied files, press and hold the [VOL +], and hold, turn on the console with the [POWER]
  • Hold down the [VOL +] until the image of an android with a percentage bar. The rom will install automatically and when the process will restart the console.

Recustom ROM:

As the fixed center of the movement is assigned to the right stick very close to the center of the screen (x=561, y=299), this means that there is very little room to move “freely” shot in the game, since that the division is set at 1024/2=512 to the left, leaving a small margin of 49 pixels dedicated to the left movement of the camera, which is inadequate for the game, as in practice hardly can rotate clockwise.

About the speakers 

The sound you get from the speakers is surprisingly clear and clean. Lack power, but enough to hear a movie / video with a quite acceptable quality for the speaker size.

A very positive point to note is that the speakers are located in the front of the device, and in such a position that they do not become obstructed by the hands when using the controls on the console, so that the sound is generally directly to the user console.

On the connectors 

This part I think is the worst comes to stop on the design of the console in general.

Both the charger connector (next to the L2 trigger) and headphones / earphones (next to the trigger R2) are too close to the triggers, and probably inconvenienced if we use the console connected to the charger or headset / earphones, especially those having rather large hands.

The truth is that I’ve been using the console these days, and usually use it with headphones, it is true that the connector has not bothered me mostly in the daily use of the console. On the ventilation 

After inspecting the console, I have not found any ventilation or at least allow the device to dissipate heat.

Testing (Benchmarking) 
Benchmarking tests, usually run with the tools and AnTuTu Benchmark Standard Quadran. This time, I made a couple of adjustments happened to comment.

Official Firmware

How to install a firmware 

The procedure is quite simple. Keep in mind that the update will remove the programs installed on the device.

  • In a microSD (of preferenica, formatted), will copy the files included in the update that you have downloaded. These files must be in the root of MicroSD

Note : Preferably, use a low-capacity microSD (less than 8GB, for example), which generate fewer compatibility problems when upgrading your system. Higher capacity cards also work, but to avoid any problems arising from an upgrade, it is preferable to rule out any such causes.

Custom Firmware 

We plunge into one of the most interesting parts of the device, is that several groups of sceners or “cooks” android have been interested in this console, with the intention of taking specific custom firmwares.

Generally, a custom firmware is a modified firmware from an original update, and that among other things you can add more functionality to the console, and even correction optimization problems, everything depends on the fonts that are available.

In the case of this console, unfortunately there are no sources of firmware, so the custom roms that can be generated simply be small improvements to the existing, but optimizations and fixes requiring background operating system can only come from the same manufacturer, since it is he who has the sources for these improvements.
Still, there are already some roms for this device, from which I could try, only 2 are worth comment, since others have been projects that have not been followed (I tested some roms that all they did was clean system pre-installed applications, but added nothing more to the end user)

Custom Firmware NCCE , is the first public custom rom being released, and that incorporates several optimizations to the system settings and original, which has a better support system for running applications / games, and a market more compatible with the device.

Skelrom v1.0, adds many optimizations and features that help to get a better experience of usage of the device for his owners.

Installing custom roms

This is a CWM based on the work of Christrian Troy, and eventually will be a tool to consider in the development of custom roms, for ease of distribution thereof.

Updated with a video of the CWM in action, in this case I have summarized a bit so as not to make long, but basically I recovered I had done previously nandroid console.

Overall system performance 
Until you write this article, there is an update available only official tablet, and with which I base this comment section.

As I mentioned earlier, even in my previous article my first impressions of this device, as a piece of hardware and design seem right to me, and thanks to that I had a chance to try many options above Android-based consoles, I would comment that it is the best that I could try at the hardware level, and as design is cool, but improved.

Now, this view changes dramatically when we talk about the operating system and software generally console.

The overall system has various problems and which result in a poor user experience, and list them roughly as follows:

  • Applications do not run . Games like Nova 3, Modern Combat 3, Gangstar Rio and many other applications can be installed from the Google Play, but when run, freeze or just close, and it is impossible to execute.
  • Relentizaciones system . Many applications, especially emulators are affected by the relentizaciones which generally has the system. On this issue, most likely this problem is due to the governor configured on the device, and is that by default comes in type “Conservative” which makes us to spend the maximum speed of the console (default is 1.5GHz, and that after the update is official in 1.2GHz) at 48MHz, which makes the system responds is sometimes very bad and very late events such as touch-screen or keystrokes / btones.
  • problems mounting microSD cards . It has detected a problem that primarily affects the microSD card automount at boot. These problems happen more often with high-capacity microSD cards (32GB and 64GB mostly). Generally, the user must remove the microSD and reinsert it into the slot for the system to detect and correctly fitted.On using 64GB microSD card in the box specifications and the manufacturer’s website mentions that device support is up to 32GB, so I’m using 64GB giving is merely “experimental” and given the results I have obtained, I recommend using 32GB cards with the device to avoid further problems.Later I will discuss in a little more detail using 64GB microSD cards.   • Mapping Tool for Analog unsupported . It is incomprehensible that product has gone to market without an appropriate tool that supports the device completely. I understand that the product has been removed using the existing on another device that simply added to the console, without adding new features that it incorporates as are analog (the L2 and R2 if they are included). Hopefully this will be resolved with an update of the system.
  • Stick D-PAD left and linked via software . This I’ve said before, but I perform stress upon this point, that is something any console user will immediately notice, and is not to be mapped, either physically or by virtual controls (on-screen) the D -Pad and the left analog stick separately in any game or application emulator.It has already been shown that both controls are separate, or at least have different functionalities (D-PAD is digital and analog stick is left), so that any user would expect to be able to map independently and naturally in any game.

  • frequent system restarts . After intensive use of the device (playing emulators), the system becomes unstable and quite often generated on restarts.As far as I can deduce and discuss with others, the more likely this problem is due to a misconfiguration speeds frequencies and / or voltages disopositivo. From what I’ve heard, the system is “castrated” (the new firmware) at a rate “raw”, that is, a value that is not calculated correctly and that can cause problems if misconfigured together with the voltage used.To discuss it in more simple words (for people who are not aware of what I’m trying to say), imagine that the console is like a car, depending on the speed / revolutions we have, we switch gears for the engine to operate in a very forced. Well, if we change these marches when they should not, for example, when we need more power when we lowered the gear or do not need the climb, the engine will start working improperly, and we can get to the point of stalling the engine.Well, something similar happens with Android table frequency and voltage. If the system is required we can find cases where there is sufficient force (voltage) and make the system “off” (restart), it would be like stall the engine. This could be improved with appropriate frequency table allowing all system go to more adequately.
  • Change mount point “/ mnt / sdcard” to have inserted microSD slot .   • Lag on some games or emulators . I detected some Lag when using some games, especially emulators. This lag is especially noticeable in emulators that come pre-installed with the device, where games like Metal Slug is so marked that a little hard to do properly play this title.Note : Overall emulators (almost all) have some lag in controls, but most are barely perceptible.
  • Dead Zone on Analog tiny . This is already more than unacuestión tastes, but as far as I can test sticks fail to focus completely, so sometimes they stay running some movement and you have to touch them to stay completely focused.This problem is solved extending a pixel area of ??the sticks Dead Zone. Perhaps this value could be configured from the same mapping tool.
  • System freezes while in sleep mode (screen off). Being with the screen off, the system suffers from frequent crashes / freezes and force reboot the system by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

I think with the above list I have put the most important points to consider implementing in future firmware upgrades and mapping tool this console.

Performance in Android Games 

As I mentioned earlier, the original console firmware, or update existing at the time of writing, many titles do not appear in the Google Play Store or even to buy, and some of that if you can buy can not run on the console.

The first of these problems is something more or less common in Android devices and usually solves “modifying” some system files to basically do believe that we are another Android device, and we have more features (but not really have them).

Generally, for the change of ID using some other device with similar hardware, but is more popular, which help you gain compatibility of google Store to install applications on our device. In Android games, I’ll sort them into three types:

  • Games with native support Joystick : These are games that recognize when a joystick connected to the system, and can be used directly. Fortunately, the controls are sufficient (although improved, by JXD interface). Sometimes unresponsive controls the fluid which is to be expected, but definitely played much better than using your fingers on the screen.

Call of Duty Black Ops – Zombies 

The interface responds quite well, although sometimes the right stick seems unresponsive and you have to repeat the commands for the game to respond correctly.

Grand Theft Auto III – 10th Anniversary 

The controls, although there are not enough buttons to map all functions can be mapped the most important and the game is fully playable.

Rayman Jungle Run 

Fluent in the title, although it is true that there is a power, if it is true that some devices have sound problems when running.

The Dark Knight Rises

Modern Combat 3

Gangstar Rio

Particularly difficult game to run on official firmware and some customs that I could try. The game, with the custom firmware right, runs in a very soft, and the onscreen controls are mapped perfectly.

Jet Set Radio 

From the few games I could prove that there is no need to map anything, because the game recognizes all buttons directly on the stick (at least the ones you need). yes, the buttons are configured to use the triggers of the console.

Need for Speed ??Most Wanted 

Talking graphically spectacular game, and it gives a feeling total immersive console.

I caught two games, to show the response of the tilt sensor (Tilt), and setting the game to be used by the left stick. In either of the two ways, the game runs very smooth and very responsive controls.

Performance emulators 

We reached another aspect that generate more interest these devices (Android Console), and the chances of retro-gaming via emulators is wide and varied.

As I usually do, I will focus on two types of emulators that may generate more interest, because they are more requirements that have to be executed correctly. I mean Nintendo 64 emulation, that in this review I have N64oid based program, and Playstation (PSX, Playstation One), which in this case I have relied on the emulator ePSXe.

Nintendo 64 (N64oid) 

 

 

The following list contains a number of games, mainly, I focus on those who are particularly difficult to emulate, so do not be surprised to see many relentizaciones since the goal of these videos is that everyone can draw their conclusions by looking at the performance of the console running these roms, and if possible to compare with the more powerful devices, which also fail emulation but thanks to the power of another machine will be less noticeable these failures.

This title is one of the most difficult to implement, and therefore is a very good test of emulation.

Killer Instinct Gold 

This is another of the titles that have some problems to be emulated correctly. The gameplay looks good, with some minor graphics, and a typical problem in the menu are not proper images.

Mario Kart 64 

Generally this title has no major problems, except for some occasional microsaltos, but this console has run very smoothly and without any problems.

Zelda Ocarina of Time 

Finally, a game that I have reference for emulation, and that many people know. Here is the full intro video with a little more gameplay.

Playstation (ePSXe) 

Generally, to use the emulator FPSE PSX, but this time there is a technical problem that prevents proper testing with this emulator, and the console comes with a screen with a refresh rate of 50Hz, and the emulator FPSE uses this rate refresh (the screen) as the maximum refresh for emulation, and therefore PAL games should not present problems in emulation (PAL=50Hz), but if you have NTSC games relentizaciones and / or accelerations, and sound synchronization problems because the NTSC refresh rate=60Hz, so you should adjust those FPSE 60 Hz to display at 50Hz, and to do that, just remove intermediate frames, which is noticeable when running titles.

The emulation in some titles is not very fluid, which surprised me, but running the No-Frills CPU governor and setting the device to “Performance2″ fluency is gained in emulation.

The mapping of controls, Nintendo64 like to have a left analog mapping, you must use the virtual analog (on screen) and map it to the mapping tool.

The right analog is not possible to map it, but we must not be surprised, because in other devices or even using a joystick connected to the console (or other tablets / devices), it is not possible. (Perhaps due to lack of full support in stick / the emulator / s)

Do not confuse this with the inability to set the right stick in games or in the same JXD mapping tool. They are different things that need to be analyzed separately.

Tekken 3 

My game consoles fetish to test, and it gives me a lot of information at the time of use.

The game runs with some acceleration and / or occasional relentizaciones but when performing movements with precise timing (Tekken players will understand what I mean), usually generate some problems. Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter 

With this title I try to show the use of the D-PAD, plus the combination of buttons to get powers.

Ghost In The Shell 

This already is a game that more or less has no problem to run on most devices. It plays pretty well, although in this case, by the lack of custom, the triggers are well away from the buttons, and you have to “train” with the console to play with this configuration.

Crash Bandicoot 

This title is used as evidence, mainly because it is a very popular game for many people and therefore can serve as a point of reference to understand how it goes about console emulation titles such concerns, which incidentally I must say that the title is very smooth and without any problems.

Battery 

This time, I installed a program to record a log of the status of the battery, the Battery Log (Hwang Tae-rok), and basically records a log for each percentage change battery.

According to the logs I got the first few days, where I give more work to the console, so I put it to download games from the market (to have the updated versions, and the correct files in the console that I PROAR) and while I’m playing download (to get a general idea of ??the device), or do I by ADB to verify things, copy files, or just with the ES File Explorer copy things from the network (SugarSync). Note: I checked the log while in the original firmware of the console, with a 1.5GHz processor (not castrated), and governor=conservative (the default one)

With all this, I think with normal use may exceed 4 hours (and I think being overcome), and should not normally take the wifi constantly enabled (no sense for example in the subway, bus, etc. where there is no wifi to connect to) and the screen at maximum brightness (with 70% should suffice in most conditions)

So with all this, I can conclude that the battery life is “decent”. For now do not say a specific duration, that until the time of writing this review I’m taking a tear to the console, but I think I mentioned above that you can make a general idea about the use and duration of the .

Pros

  • Front speakers output. The sound is not covered by the hands, and comes with enough clarity and sharpness.
  • Buttons soft and of good quality.
  • D-PAD in conditions (one piece), and positioned properly on the console. To taste, there are probably people who would have preferred the D-PAD on analog, but after trying other alternatives, I think that is the best position they have achieved, as the most commonly used controls are the analog sticks, and this console have gotten uncomfortable than fuck with thumbs pressed while the triggers with the indices, and the position of the D-PAD not bother at all to play fighting games, which are the most used this type of control .
  • 1GB Ram, is the first console JXD including this amount of Ram. (Of course, if they wanted to present a solution with Jelly Bean, needed to raise the amount of system memory, since the traditional 512MB would not be enough to run smoothly JB)
  • I will consider as a positive that has agreed to hear JXD, albeit indirect, which asked users for some time, and I have included in this console. Things like adding analog, add double triggers (add triggers to the previous model), earning potential, etc., are things that are asked and have finally achieved in this device.
  • JXD response to urgent problems that users have expressed, resulted in an update that has effectively solved any of the problems (in this case, the Update 1.3 solves the problem that the d-pad to tarry “locked” , and thereby carry out actions that games do not expect)

Cons 

Let me summarize the points I have mentioned previously in “General System Performance”

  • Low operating system stability in general (in the firmware released with the console), resulting in many crashes and / or freezing of the console or multiple consoles showing complete non-response errors, forcing the closure.
  • Poor and insufficient implementation of controls mapping tool, which does not include analog.
  • Mirroring functionality and D-PAD Analog (incomprehensible at this point to continue doing this.) to be duplicated, it can be mapped independently controls in these games and / or emulators.
  • Fixed preset action and right stick, continuous motion starting from a fixed point on the screen.
  • Inability to use the right stick in any application / game, if not through the mapping tool JXD
  • No Select and Start buttons in the mapping tool
  • Application Profiles not implemented in the mapping tool, which requires manually configure the button layout, every time we change the game.
  • With the firmware that comes with the device, and to date the official firmware released by the manufacturer, still can not run some applications / popular games such as Nova3, Modern Combat 3, Gangstar Rio, etc.
  • Relentizaciones overall system, especially in some emulators like FPSE. (Possibly by the refresh rate of the screen, set to 50Hz)
  • Heating of the rear-left of the console, after prolonged use.
  • Difficulty assembling some types of microSD (generally large capacity, 32GB and 64GB particular, although we should not consider the latter, because the device is not officially supported for these cards / capacity)
  • Dead Zone too small for analogue and problems that result in involuntary movements.

Enhancements 

Besides the obvious mentioned in the Cons, there are some that need to be mentioned separately:

  • Allow mapping the right stick in other applications
  • Generate a joystick interface that can support applications that map directly controls, particularly analog (examples FPS)
  • Develop the mapping tool, which has great potential but is currently in its “infancy”
  • Although already do, albeit indirectly, would be good JXD opened a channel of communication with some sceners and for “counseled” about which things should change / improve, and especially work together to plan a future revision of this console.

Conclusion 

My first impression of the console still maintain, is that by taking note that the device has nothing to do with what has been done so far (well, the previous model was already pointing to this result).

Controls, buttons, device structure, all give a very good impression as a whole, but that is quickly overshadowed by the software that came with the device, and that both the firmware (operating system) as the exclusive tools console (basically, the mapping tool) fail at an alarming rate, removing every good feeling that you can offer the product at first contact.

Frequent Crashes when leaving the console in standby mode, the system generally relentizaciones product of a poor implementation of the speeds and the “governor” set, and a number of other factors, cause the operating system be optimized and so little rather unstable, which removes the desire to use the tablet.

Furthermore, if we add the mapping tool, apart from the L2 and R2 buttons, you do not stop being the Select and Start earlier versions of the software and can be found in other devices, the set of all these problems will take everything the overall attractiveness may have the console.

Fortunately, the manufacturer is rsepondiendo to user requests, resolving some of the problems with the device, and we add that the scene is actively working on it, with “android cooks” who are preparing Custom versions based Firmwarse the officers, and that optimizes, albeit not significant, but are coming together a number of things that result in interesting custom firmwares, and make the system manages to win the general interest.

If JXD follow the path of listening to users and troubleshoot the device, 99% are related to software so they can solve them and post them as an update, we could be on the verge of a very interesting device that could generate a landmark in Android consoles in general, and with this set as a benchmark in terms of this type of device.

Even so, and in the state that is currently the console and the scene, the device meets expectations, albeit very fair because there are still things to polish.

However, using this device and its controls are infinitely more comfortable and convenient to play titles like shooters, using fingers above the screen, obscuring part of this vision and, above all, that the controls for a virtual ” gamer “in general are the worst controls you can use to fully enjoy a game.

For my part, I have enough faith that knows JXD live up to the expectations it has generated in its product, and respond with updates, patches or whatever it takes to provide the experience that users looking for gamers with this device.

JXDS7300B – First Impressions

First look and impressions about JXDS7300B

This article is not a full review, is my very first impressions about the device and i want to share with you, before my review.

Take a note that this first impressions may change when i write the full review of the product in the next days.

And, please, apologize my poor english. I will do my best to write this article and make it understandable.

 

Quality of the product

The first impression when i got the device is that is a good  quality product, away from what usually come from chinese factories and many people related directly as chinese = poor quality. The true is this device give a feel of a very quality product, with quality materials in his building.

Te device weight is 430grs, and this is noticeable when you get the device in your hands. First time you can think the device is too weight, but really is the normal weight for many high end devices that in many cases raises the 500grs.

If we take as a reference the previous JXDS7100/B (for who know), i consider these devices as a good building products, and this new JXDS7300B is an evolution from them, raising these quality on few points.

The surface, in the case of the sample testd (the black model) is matte, keeping clean from fingerprints and other typical spots/stains that we can found on most common devices with touch screen. Is so comfortable to the eye, because there is no shines/glitters.

The back face have a soft curvature on the borders, and this is so comfortable when you get the device in your hands. Is better than JXDS7100/B

 

Ports and slots

Here is the first thing i see as potential problem (not a serious problem).

The phone connector/port is too near of the R2 button, and this may be annoying, specially for those have big hands.

The power connector have the same problem. Is too near of the L2 button.

Analyzing the front of the device, there is a possible reason because the manufacturer put these two connectors in these locations: The screen is too big and don´t let a margin that let the connectors feet completely. The space may be not enought for the lenght of the phones plug, then i figure they decided to put this on the border of the screen to avoid problems with this.

In the next days i will do more testing with the device, and i will tell you about this issue.

 

Speakers

I was surprised by the Speakers audio quality, without being exceptional, is very clear and clean.

A very good point is that the location of the speakers, in the front of the device, and under any button/controller, help too much because the speakers never get obstructed by the hands, and sound get directly to the user.

 

Buttons and controllers

The action buttons (A, B, X, Y) are softly when pushed and there is no “clack” sound when pressed, typically on other products of the same kind. You can feel that the buttons have a membrane that help to soft the pressure.

Shoulder buttons are ok. Maybe for some users with big hands are a little bit annoying because his location, but i’m sure this is a practice question to get comfortable with them.

There is a point about shoulder buttons. When i playing Samurai II: Vengance, i mapped R1 to the somersault in the game, and attack to X and Y buttons.

In game, when i put away my fingers form X and Y buttons, when i try to push again these buttons i lost the space reference of them, and always push on the right stick by mistake. I’m sure this “issue” will dissapear with a little bit of practice with the device.

The D-PAD

Ok, this is a real D-PAD, not a 4 buttons that emulate ones. I noticed that the D-PAD Left of the sample i testing is a little bit hard to press than the other directions. I assume this issue will dissapears with the normal use of the device.

The Analog Sticks

This is one of the most important points of this device, and a question that many people have been doing these days, because JXD always fall in the same error on each of his previous devices, linking the D-PAD with the Analog stick, and losing the real analog from any device.

Fortunely, this time they put real sticks on the device, and this is the first thing i tested on the device.

I captured a video where i show and confirm that the sticks (both of them) are real.

The video above i grabbed using my phone, and don´t get a good quality, but is enought to understand the way i tested the sticks and with this get the confirmation about real analog sticks.

The main problem now are from emulators. Only few of them have support for analog sticks. I tested Mupen64, wich supposedly have support for analogs, and i cannot map correctly the D-PAD and Left Stick in separated way, not linked, and the C-Buttons to be assigned to the right Stick.

Note: Sometime, in some test, i can handle D-PAD and Left Analog in separated way, and i get them mapped unliked in the emulator, but when i tried again to mapping these controls to grab a video, i cannot get them unliked again, and until now i don´t know how to do again.

I’ll keep testing to try to get the way to map these controls in separated way (unliked)

The right stick is not suprised to me, because with other devices i cannot get them to be mapped to c-buttons too, except if i use some tool such GameKeyboard, that let me assign Sticks to keys from a standard keyboard, and with this map these controls in any emulator as normal keys.

Anyway, I managed to map virtual controls of the Mupen64 emulator with the physical controls of the device, and i get Mario to walk normally (not running) in Super Mario 64 when i push softly on the stick. (and run if i push heavy)

Finally, about controllers, i must comment about a weird behavior of the Right Stick when the mapping tool is active. The mapping location is fixed on screen (near the center of the screen) and behavior is similar to “Target” button type on the Archos Gamepad Mapping tool. You can see what i talking about from minute 1:05 of the video i posted above.

Until now, i don´t know how to change this assignment.

 

About the Screen

the quality of the screen is normal for a product of this specs/price. Not bad, but no exceptional.

Vision angles are so similar to other products from this same kind, and his weak point is viewing from bottom of the screen.

The bright i feel a little bit low. This point i will test when i use normally the device next days, when i’m on the street or the underway. For now i think is enought for normal usage.

One think i realized is that JXD make soft borders and now is easier access to the edges of the touch screen. Previous JXD products have this “problem” that all of them have heavy borders, and this difficult to touch the borders of the screen.

Well, from now this is my first impression of the device. Now i will work in the review.
